History is only made once.
After years of dreaming, planning, building, and believing, the Northern Super League is finally ready to take the pitch. Tomorrow, on April 16, professional women’s soccer officially kicks off in Canada with the first match of the NSL’s inaugural season, marking a seismic moment for sport, equity, and culture in this country.
The stage is set at BC Place in Vancouver, where Vancouver Rise FC will host Calgary Wild FC in the league’s debut match. The opening week continues with a second clash between AFC Toronto and Montreal Roses FC on April 19 at BMO Field, a fierce rivalry-in-the-making that promises fireworks.
This is more than a moment. It’s a movement.
Opening Week: What to Watch
April 16: Vancouver Rise FC vs. Calgary Wild FC | BC Place, 7:00 PM PT
The season opens with a West Coast showdown. Vancouver Rise FC, known for their ocean-deep roster and fearless play, are looking to make a statement in front of a home crowd. On the other side, Calgary Wild FC bring prairie pride and electric pace, ready to spoil the Rises’ debut with their signature attacking flair.
This match will be historic - but it will also be hungry, fast, and fiercely competitive.
April 19: AFC Toronto vs. Montreal Roses FC | BMO Field, 4:00 PM ET
Just three days later, the spotlight shifts to Toronto, where a classic Canadian rivalry takes new form on the pitch. Toronto’s tactical depth and Montreal’s soon-to-be distinct style are set to clash in what could be the beginning of a storied inter-city feud.
Both teams boast marquee players, electric fan bases, and a hunger to be the first to notch a win on the board. Expect determination, grit, and a crowd that roars with every touch.
A League for All of Us
From the very first touch, the Northern Super League belongs to the people who support it. To the players who’ve trained for this moment. To the fans who’ve waited too long. To the kids in the stands dreaming of one day taking the pitch themselves. These matches are the beginning of a legacy. A league built for and by Canadians. A league where women lead. A league that dares to dream bigger.
This isn’t just about playing women’s soccer, it’s about rewriting the sports landscape in Canada.
It’s about building something ours.
So whether you're watching from the stands, catching the broadcast on TSN or CBC, or cheering from your phone, be loud. Be proud. Be there.
Because history is happening, and it's only just begun.
